Fun fact, November 8 is the official national Harvey Wallbanger day.
What is it?
The Harvey Wallbanger is an easy, sweet cocktail that almost tastes like an orange creamsicle thanks to the addition of the light vanilla flavor .
Why is it called that?
According to Wine Enthusiast, one colorful tale details the drinks is after a surfer, Tom Harvey, a from Manhattan Beach, California. “Supposedly, after too many bad days on the waves, Harvey consoled himself with so many Galliano-spiked screwdrivers that he staggered into the walls.”
While it is a great story! However the Harvey Wallbanger is most likely the product of the clever, Galliano marketing department around 1969-1970. Still I think the drunk surfer dude running into wall is the stuff of legends.
How to make it?
Harvey Wallbanger
- 1.25 oz Vodka
- 0.5 oz Galliano Liqueur
- 3 oz Orange juice
- 1 slice orange
Mix the vodka and orange juice in a shaker, pour into a tall glass filled with ice. Float Galliano on top and stir. Garnish with orange slice. While not part of the original recipe, you can add a maraschino cherry for color.
